During the presentation to the media of the “Cheers 2024” event, Guillaume Duverdier, CEO of Heineken México, explained that after the announcement of the new plant that will be built in the municipality of Kanasín, Yucatán, they chose to invest in our state, because the market throughout the southeast is developing and showing economic growth, which will also represent a development of the beer category.

The investment that the Dutch brewer Heineken will make in Yucatán will be 8.7 billion pesos, with the idea of opening the plant after two or three years, because that is the time it takes to obtain all the permits, so this important project could become a reality by 2027.

“For us, it is a very strong symbol of the importance that the Southeast in general and Yucatán in particular has for this particular market. We are very pleased that we can make this investment,” said Guillaume Duverdier.

Claudia de la Vega, vice president of Corporate Affairs, pointed out that the Southeast of Mexico has become a strategic pole, mainly in attracting multiple investments of different kinds, which is why they want to supply the southeastern market by shortening distribution times. Since the closest brewery was in the state of Veracruz, taking the beer to the south of the country means a long journey and higher costs.

De la Vega said that they are seeking to supply a market with extremely growing demand and very interesting for Heineken. She added that at this moment they are in the period of obtaining permits; and authorizations, and especially the indigenous consultation that is being done around the area.

This new plant will seek to attract Yucatecan talent, and this investment will generate around 2,000 jobs, both direct and indirect.

They recognized the support that the state and municipal authorities have given their company.

They explained that, before laying the first stone of the plant, everything must be in order, so they are subject to the authorities’ schedules.

In this regard, the CEO of Heineken Mexico elaborated on the topic and said that, we must understand that the company on the one hand wants to go quickly, but on the other hand it has to do things well; That means that you have to consult and listen to make sure that this project is not just in one plant, but that the project will have a total economic development with the involvement of the local community, so a little more time is needed to do things well.

Claudia de la Vega, Heineken vice president of Corporate Affairs stated “We want it to be not only our plant, but also the population’s plant.”

Finally, as part of its commitment to being a more sustainable company, in Chihuahua it has already achieved a water efficiency of 1.8 (average liters of water per liter of beer produced), for this reason in the new Kanasín plant the same figurewill be sought.

On this topic, the CEO stated that Heineken will make all the investments necessary to have the latest technologies that will allow the water to be properly treated, so that the liquid that is not used can be returned to the environment with a higher quality.
