In the framework of the upcoming celebration of the faithful departed the cemeteries of Mérida are ready to receive the visitors who will come on November 1 and 2 to honor the memory of their deceased loved ones.

The Municipal Public Services Directorate has implemented a comprehensive cleaning and maintenance operation since the beginning of September in the 33 cemeteries that are located in the city and the police stations.

In the General, Florido, and Jardines de la Paz cemeteries, general cleaning work was carried out, on the walkways, painting of sidewalks, curbs, and facades, pruning of trees, removal of debris, fumigation, and abatement, so that families can visit their deceased in an environment free of mosquitoes and weeds.

In the General Cemetery, the preparations included washing the stone floor and fixing the facade located on 81st Street from where the Paseo de las Ánimas organized by the Mérida City Council will start.

At the same time, a permanent cleaning program was carried out in the cemeteries of the police stations, providing maintenance for pruning, fumigation, and garbage collection in the 33 districts that have a cemetery; specific attention was also given to the 19 chapels.

In Xoclán, maintenance and painting work was also carried out. In turn, in the General Cemetery, large-capacity water tanks will be placed to provide water to the areas that do not have this service.

In all cemeteries, a surveillance and medical services operation will be implemented with the support of the Public Security Secretariat and the Municipal Police of Mérida, to guarantee the safety of visitors and speed up the flow of traffic on the roads surrounding the different cemeteries on November 1 and 2, as well as ambulances and cranes on November 2.

Visiting hours at the Municipal Cemeteries on November 1 and 2 will be from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The masses to be held on November 2 will have the following schedules: Chuburná and Florido at 9:00 a.m.; Xoclán at 10:00 a.m.; General at 11:00 a.m. That day, the city council estimates that the attendance will exceed 3 thousand people.

In the case of Xoclán, for the mass on November 2, the main entrance will be only for urban transport; private vehicles will enter from the west side of the cemetery, that is, on 12th Street until reaching the parking lot.

In General, vehicles will travel from north to south on 66th Street, then turn onto 81st until reaching 81-A and enter through the main door. The exit from the cemetery to go to the center will be on 66th Street from south to north.
