The Carnival festivities will be experienced not only in the state capital but in several different municipalities across the state that have already announced a wide range of activities. One of them is Progreso, which will include among the attractions of its 2024 Carnival the performances of Mexican singer Belinda and the famous Banda El Recodo.
Dates of the Progreso Carnival
The activities of the Carnaval de Progreso 2024 will take place from Thursday, February 1 to Saturday, February 17. The theme around which the choreography, costumes, and parades will revolve is “Latin Journey”, which will refer to the rhythms of six countries: Brazil, Colombia, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Mexico.
Kings of the Carnival of Progreso 2024
This year, the governor of the Carnaval de Progreso is Jorge Alberto Rojas Cab. In addition, the youth kings are Aleiza María Elena Cervantes Sánchez and Jesús Martínez Dantori. Sara Valentina Hevia Reyes and Camilo Guilbardo Ortega Carrillo are the child monarchs, while María Asunción Ortiz and Jorge Alberto Azueta Suarez represent the mature people. Yenine Pech Chim and Alex Natan Noh Magaña will be the sovereigns with disabilities and Sofía Daniela Peña Cuytún will be crowned Queen of Diversity.
Calendar of activities
The calendar of activities for the Carnaval de Progreso is as follows.
- On Thursday, February 1, the “Quema del Humor y Paseo de Gallo” will take place on the ground floor of the municipal palace of Progreso, starting at 7 pm.
- On Saturday, February 3, the coronation of the carnival kings will take place at the Progreso Sports Unit, at 7 pm.
- On Thursday, February 8, there will be a “Presentation of Floats”, at 6 pm on the International Malecón.
- On Friday, February 9, there will be several activities. First, at 3 in the afternoon, the children’s parade will begin, which will go from the Parque de las Madres to the Municipal Palace. At 4 in the afternoon, there will be a presentation of children’s troupes. Then, at 8 pm the parade will begin, whose route begins and ends in front of the Progreso City Hall.
- On Saturday, February 10, the Fantasy and Mask walk will take place at 7 pm on the Malecón Tradicional. At 8 pm there will be an exhibition of troupes at the House of Culture of Progreso.
- On February 11, the Sunday walk will begin at noon also on the Malecón Tradicional.
- On Monday, February 12, the “Pasacalles y la Vaquería Regional” will arrive in the port of Progreso, whose route will begin at 7 pm from the Meteorite Museum and end at the municipal market.
- On Tuesday, February 13, the Battle of Flowers will begin at noon on the Progreseño boardwalk.
- On Wednesday, February 14, the Burning of Juan Carnaval will put an end to the festivities, on the ground floor of the Municipal Palace, at 7 pm.
- On Saturday, February 17, there will be a review of Carnival 2024 at the House of Culture, at 6 p.m.
Line-up of artists at the Progreso Carnival
As part of its activities, the Carnaval de Progreso includes the following lineup of artists.
- On Saturday, February 3, Mexican singer and recording artist Belinda will perform at the Progreso Sports Unit at 9 pm, as part of the “Magna Coronación de los Reyes del Carnival.” Previously, the actress and presenter Wendy Braga will be in charge of hosting the event.
- On Sunday, February 11, the Banda El Recodo will perform at 7 pm on the Malecón Tradicional.
- On Monday, February 12 at 6 p.m. “La Tía Chayo” will conduct a regional comedy show that will be held at the “Francisco I. Madero” municipal market.
- On Tuesday, February 13, during the Battle of Flowers, attendees will be able to greet Esteban Said, the content creator. At 5 in the afternoon, in front of the monumental letters of the Malecón Internacional, there will be the performance of the musical group Piso 21.
