As a municipality, we are firmly committed to continue generating and promoting investment by offering the necessary conditions to do so, and thus continue advancing the economic development of the Municipality, which provides more opportunities, more jobs, and wellbeing for families, said Mayor Renán Barrera Concha.
“In Merida, we are working to create the necessary conditions to make the Municipality more attractive to investors of all kinds, because we live in a city where we promote equitable growth for everyone, where we grow evenly and with social justice,” he said.
In that sense, the Mayor had a meeting with members of Grupo Farrera, one of the largest companies in southeastern Mexico, based in the state of Chiapas, which comprises two distributor divisions: the automotive division that includes cars, lubricants, and auto parts, and the tourism division that includes hotels and restaurants.
Barrera Concha indicated that the economic growth of the Municipality is the result of multiple factors in which the state and municipal governments work hand in hand with the private sector to not only maintain but increase economic investments in the entity.
“Our commitment to the well-being of Yucatecans is to promote Merida and Yucatan, together with the State Government, inside and outside our borders, as well as the municipal impetus to create the best investment conditions, which results in the entity positioning itself better and better in the country’s economic field,” he said.
This is a reflection of the team that we have formed, consisting of entrepreneurs, state and municipal authorities, to improve the living conditions of everyone, to grow evenly, and to ensure that no one is left out of these benefits.
The Mayor stated that Merida has reaffirmed its position among the top 10 cities, with more than one million inhabitants, with the best urban competitiveness according to the IMCO. Furthermore, the State is also among the top 10 entities with the highest State Competitiveness Index, which speaks to its ability to generate, attract, and retain talent and investments between Merida and Yucatan.
“An example of this is that the Municipality currently has a total of 365 procedures and services, of which 123 are 100% online. This represents a saving of time and resources, that is, it streamlines the processes for the benefit of citizens and investors through administrative simplification,” he said.
He also emphasized that last year, the Municipal Registry of Procedures and Services (REMTyS) received 900,000 visits, mostly from Mexico, but also from countries such as the United States, Canada, Argentina, China, Spain, and Peru.
“In addition to this, we continue to advance in collaboration with the State Government in the construction of the Digital Investment Window, which links municipal and state procedures for the opening of companies or establishments through homologated procedures and services,” he pointed out.
The Mayor indicated that all these conditions are added to the national and foreign investment that arrives attracted by the conditions of social peace found in Yucatan and especially in Merida.
“A very important fact is that the companies that have settled in Merida are attracted by the security conditions that are experienced in the Municipality, an environment that we have built together with the citizens,” he concluded.
Also present at the meeting were Mario Martinez Laviada, Chief Officer; Fernando Vázquez Farrera, Director of the Automotive Division of Grupo Farrera; Juan Ramirez Huerta, General Director of Construction; Juan Carlos Guízar Coutiño, Regional Director of the Automotive Division, and Carlos Estrella Escalante, Advisor to Grupo Farrera.
