In Yucatan, same-sex marriage was already approved in the last legislature, however, reforms to state laws are still missing for this exercise to be complete, therefore, legislators are asking for the corresponding adjustments to be made.
One of the deputies who has presented this proposal to complete the exercise of modifying the laws so that people of the same sex can marry in Yucatan, is deputy Vida Gomez Herrera.
“It is time for equal marriage to materialize in civil unions between two people who love each other in Yucatán,” she said.
The legislator considers it important that people no longer make use of amparos or have to travel to other states to get married, when they have the same rights as heterosexual people, who are not questioned at the time of marriage.
In addition, he considers that it is a human right, so he presented an initiative to reform the Family Code and the Civil Registry Law.
The initiative is focused on eliminating obstacles so that people, regardless of their sexual orientation, can enter into civil marriages.
Although there is still time to make the corresponding reforms, the deputy explained that on September 6, 2021, Decree 413/2021 was published in the Official Gazette of the State of Yucatan, which modified the Constitution of Yucatan, in matters of equal marriage.
Said decree ordered the Congress to legislate on the matter within a maximum term of 180 calendar days, a period which is currently elapsing, since 100 days have already passed and the Congresswoman considered it necessary for these reforms to be made.
