Usually this disease is associated with unhealthy lifestyles, including obesity, overweight, lack of physical activity, and a nutrient deficient diet high in sugars and carbohydrates…
MERIDA – The TYT team cares about your health, so that’s why we bring you some recommendations to avoid diabetes provided by Dr. Jorge Martínez Torres, head of Medical Benefits of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in Yucatan.
Dr. Martínez Torres assures that before diabetes occurs there are symptoms that bear watching; that is, the blood glucose level is higher than normal, but it is not high enough to determine that it is diabetes.
When the diabetes screening test results are between 100 to 125 milligrams of glucose per deciliter of blood (mg / dl), or if you ate or drank in the eight hours before the test and the result is between 140 to 199 mg / dl, you probably have prediabetes.
When this situation arises, the doctors must carry out another study, and if it has the same results, prediabetes is confirmed. When this happens it is really important to take measures to control it, as it is estimated that 11 out of 100 people with prediabetes will develop diabetes in the next three years of their lives.
Recommendation:
- Eat in a balanced way the different food groups: vegetables, fruits, cereals, legumes and products of animal origin.
- Avoid any sugary meal or dessert.
- Reduce the intake of soft drinks and bottled juices, in general.
- Take care of the size and quantity of food that you eat each day.
- Keep checking your sugar levels in blood and ask your doctor if you have any doubt.
