(Wednesday, December 13th – TYT) On the Mérida – Progreso highway, in the Súper Aki Xcanatún parking lot, one of Merida’s most remembered and awaited US-based fast food chains officially inaugurated for guests and city/state officials. Mayor Alejandro Ruz Castro headed the inauguration of the Wendy’s branch in Xcanatún and also made the “first purchase” of this franchise that returns to the Yucatecan capital after 20 years of absence to offer another fast food and burger option.

Merida’s Mayor Alejandro Ruz Castro.

The mayor said that the return of this chain generates nostalgia, but of the positive kind since this franchise generates excellent expectations and consolidates the work that the municipality has done in conjunction with the State Government with the attraction of new investments.

“For several years, Merida has been called a creative city for its gastronomy, which shows that the vocation for years has been gastronomy. It was undoubtedly one of the sectors hardest hit by the pandemic, but today, we are pleased to consolidate this gastronomic vocation,” Mayor Alejandro Ruz Castro said.

The brand is operated by AMBO Operadora as a Wendy’s franchisee. Its CEO, Mr. Alfredo Abraham, pointed out that this Xcanatún location is the first in the city, the state and the first of many to be opened in Southeast Mexico, as this branch is part of the accelerated growth the brand has in the country.

He highlighted that the brand was created in 1969 in Columbus, Ohio, United States, under the mission of doing things “the right way, without cutting corners,” and that is why the company’s slogan is Quality is our recipe, which makes Wendy’s stand out from its competition since its meat is not frozen, it is always fresh, giving another option to burger lovers. “Fresh meat is a great differentiator in taste and juiciness. Wendy’s is making this proposal for all Meridanos, knowing that there is longing since many of us remember the brand… and for those who do not know it, we promise you will enjoy it,” mentioned the Yucatecan businessman.

This is the second attempt by Wendy’s to enter the Yucatan Peninsula market. In the ’90s and early 2000s, Wendy’s had 2 locations in the city: At the Gran Plaza Mall (where Starbucks is now) and another in Col. Pensiones, across from Plaza Las Américas. Wendy’s Yucatan’s directors explained that the brand has been in Mexico for over 30 years, with current locations in Mexico City, Chihuahua, and Nuevo León. However, that is about to change since they have a fast-pass expansion program across Mexico. In this new era of Wendy’s, people will find its favorites such as The Dave’s Double and the “Baconator.” However, the brand is currently working on a menu based on the local palate.
