In this statement, he indicated, that the state and municipal governments, different sectors of organized civil society, private initiative and groups that work on the issue contribute, and that have joined forces to consolidate Mérida as a sustainable city.

Ruz Castro said that one of the initiatives promoted by the City Council that is achieving greater interest among citizens is the program of “Incentives for Actions against Climate Change”.

This grants a tax discount of 15% on the main amount of the property tax, based on cadastral value, to owners who use solar panels or some sustainable alternative such as Green Roofs in their homes or businesses.

“Since 2021 and to date we have received around 2,000 applications from home and business owners with solar panels, of which 1,480 have been approved because they met the requirements to be eligible for this incentive,” he stated.

Of the total applications, he added, 1,448 correspond to residences and 32 to businesses, benefiting 4,405 people.

The municipal president pointed out that this initiative, along with other sustainable practices that are applied in the city by the Sustainable Development Unit, makes Mérida recognized today in the country as a city committed to caring for the environment and a leader in the adoption and use of clean technologies.

“A constant of the municipal government is the support of society through participation councils, an action that contributes to promoting mechanisms that allow us to generate conditions that help the environment, reduce CO2 emissions, and mitigate the effects of climate change in Mérida. ”, Mayor Alejandro Ruz Castro.
