The Chamber of Representatives could consider repatriating the remains of Porfirio Díaz to Mexico, following the presentation of a resolution by Congressman Daniel Gutiérrez Gutiérrez on Thursday, October 5, urging the Secretariats of Interior, Foreign Affairs, and Culture to request his repatriation from the government of France.

According to the resolution, General Porfirio Díaz made it clear during his lifetime that his wish was to be buried in Mexico, specifically in the Basilica of La Soledad in his home state of Oaxaca.

General José De La Cruz Porfirio Díaz Mori is one of the most important figures in Mexican history, and over a century after his passing, many of the contributions and works built during his presidency continue to be present in our country.

When asked if this move contradicts the legacy of former President Benito Juárez, a figure highly valued by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Deputy Gutiérrez said that, on the contrary, they complement each other.
