To ensure that the city’s urban infrastructure is functional for all residents, the City Council led by Renán Barrera Concha is carrying out comprehensive maintenance programs to ensure that public services are in optimal condition.
During the inspection of cleaning work in the Libertad neighborhood in the Industrial City, the Mayor stated that these efforts reaffirm the administration’s commitment to provide better urban infrastructure that enhances the quality of life for all citizens.
Accompanied by José Collado Soberanis, Director of Municipal Public Services, Barrera Concha supervised urban cleaning tasks, cleaning of drains, tree pruning, road repairs, drainage well desilting, and park maintenance.
He indicated that, thanks to the proper and transparent management of public resources and the tax compliance of the citizens, the City Council acquires equipment with advanced technology for the necessary work in Mérida and also provides the necessary tools to the workforce for their tasks.
During the inspection, Collado Soberanis pointed out that the new desilting machine, acquired at the end of last year, uses pressure to clear sediment, leaves, and debris that block drains and also clears pipes connected to the city’s 40 reservoirs, which receive maintenance twice a year.
He mentioned that this equipment reduces the time and effort needed for the department’s tasks, as it completes the work that used to be done by 40 employees of the Public Services Department in minutes. Moreover, it ensures quicker and more thorough cleaning of drains, collection wells, and reservoirs.
He added that the Public Services drainage team currently has two 20,000-liter drainage tanks, eight 3-meter dump trucks, a flatbed truck, two 12,000-liter vac-con desilting machines, two dossam air compressors, three five-inch coredrill drilling machines, three submersible pumps, nine self-priming pumps, and 15 teams dedicated to drainage, repairs, and desilting tasks, making a total of 81 workers.
Finally, the Mayor urged citizens to report issues through the Ayuntatel hotline (9999-24-40-00) or the Municipality’s official social media channels, encouraging them to contribute to identifying and addressing areas that require attention.
