The state of Yucatán continues to achieve unprecedented milestones in the tourism sector, as last month marked the best May in the history of the “Manuel Crescencio Rejón” International Airport in Mérida, with a total of 292,359 passengers.
According to official data, the Yucatecan airport experienced a growth of 13.97 percent in this area compared to the same month last year.
Furthermore, during the first five months of 2023, the airport has recorded a total of 1.5 million passengers, representing a 35.77 percent increase compared to the previous year.
In an official statement, Yucatecan authorities highlighted that these upward numbers are the result of various strategies implemented in the region to promote tourism.
As an example, in December 2022, Yucatán celebrated the arrival of the 3-millionth passenger, surpassing previous records even before the arrival of Covid-19 in the region, such as in 2019 when 2.8 million travelers were reached.
It is worth mentioning that to achieve these passenger flow numbers, the Mérida International Airport has increased its connectivity with other airports.
For instance, there are direct routes such as Mérida-Guanajuato, operated by Volaris and Viva Aerobus, as well as the arrival of Guatemalan airline TAG Airlines, which travels between Guatemala and Flores, in that Central American country.
