With works and actions aimed at the equitable development of the city, we are addressing the most pressing needs of the population and improving the quality of life of all the inhabitants of the neighborhoods and commissaries of the municipality, said Mayor Renán Barrera Concha.

As part of these actions to provide more and better public spaces, the Mayor inaugurated the San José Tzal park, located in the south of the city, which was rehabilitated under the participatory design scheme.

He pointed out that, with this rehabilitation, the city continues to be transformed hand in hand with the citizens to provide public spaces with sports areas, green areas and recreational areas for all ages.

“It is no longer just a matter of building public spaces, but of ensuring that they meet the needs of the community. This is achieved with citizen participation, which is the backbone of the quality of life in this city,” he said.

Barrera Concha indicated that this space not only benefits the San José Tzal subdivision, but that a total of 2,993 people living in the southern neighborhoods of Las Perlas de Villa Bonita, Nueva San José Tecoh and Brisas de San José.

He emphasized that another important aspect that the City Hall contributes in the construction or rehabilitation of public spaces is security, which is why the lighting and the assignment of a park ranger stand out as a fundamental element.

For their part, the neighbors thanked the Mayor for encouraging citizen participation in public projects and mentioned that the construction of this park was for many years the dream of all the neighbors.

“It was very nice, we are very happy to have this new space for children and young people to have fun, it was necessary, especially because it was something we requested”, said Yolanda Fernández Palomo.

Another neighbor, Juan Israel Rodríguez Ceballos, congratulated Renán Barrera for listening to the voice of the neighbors for the construction of Mérida’s parks, as it shows that he heads an administration that is close to the people and attends to their requests.

“I participated in some of the meetings that were held to design the park, and what pleased me the most was that they did it just as we decided in the meetings,” he said.

In turn, the Secretary of Citizen Participation, Julio Sauma Castillo, informed that 3 public sessions were held in which 100 people participated, of which 69% were women and 31% men.

He recalled that last year 22 parks were built under the Participatory Design of Public Spaces scheme with a total investment of 67 million 368 thousand 927.72 pesos.

Likewise, the Director of Public Works, David Loría Magdub, informed that a total of 4 million 149 thousand 755.55 pesos were invested in the park from resources of Infrastructure Branch 33.

He explained that the works carried out consisted of the construction of a pedestrian walkway area, a children’s area with inclusive games, green areas, electrical installations for the lighting system, benches for resting, family picnic tables with capacity for 6 people, trash cans, bicycle parking with capacity for 6, sidewalks and ramps for people with disabilities.

Present at the inauguration were Dafne López Osorio, local deputy; Diana Canto Moreno, municipal trustee; María José Cáceres Delgado, director of Social Development; Israel Rodríguez, president of the Social Comptrollership Committee; Silva Várguez Uc, member of the Citizen Participation Council of the San José Tzal subdivision; and Elvia Kim Herrera, member of the Citizen Participation Council of the San José Tzal subdivision.
