Semarnat initiated the public consultation process for the Punta Venado tourist development, south of Playa del Carmen and in the vicinity of Calica, where administrative proceedings are underway.
The Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) announced the parameters of participation for those interested in issuing technical opinions on the environmental impact project.
This is a real estate development that a private individual intends to carry out some 13 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen, near the Xcaret ecotourism park.
The developer is “Residencial Punta Venado“, a commercial company that last December submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for evaluation. The construction is to be built on an area of 106 hectares.
“It intends to house 108 hotel rooms, 50 special suites, and 40 residences, which will be complemented with high-end services and infrastructure,” states the EIA.
The company promises an investment of one thousand 250 million pesos, looking to establish this development in the heart of the Riviera Maya.
“Concerning the amount of investment to address the prevention, mitigation, and compensation measures contained (…) however, this amount may vary according to what is established in the terms and conditions of the resolution on environmental impact, in case the project is authorized,” adds the MIA.
Furthermore, the developer also promises the generation of more than 2,000 direct jobs during the construction stage.
In this context, Semarnat has opened the public consultation process from March 13 to April 12. The MIA can be consulted at: https://www.semarnat.gob.mx/gobmx/transparencia/consultas.html.
