Following the evidence presented by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) that supported the participation of the accused in the crime of animal abuse or cruelty against domestic animals, J.C.P.E. was sentenced in an abbreviated procedural trial to three years and nine months of prison.

The man was accused of the death of the dog “Rufo” on August 12 in Mérida’s Chuburná neighborhood.

At a hearing held in the Second Control Court of the First District based in Mérida, the sentence was handed down after it was proven that the accused deprived “Rufo” of his life with a machete.

The sentence was given after the parties’ consent following the documentary and testimonial data presented in the investigation.

The events occurred in the Chuburná neighborhood, where the pet was violated and deprived of its life, so the complaint was filed by neighbors who witnessed what happened.

Following the sentence announced on April 2nd, the judge also determined a fine of 900 days and compensation for the damage, consisting of the supply of pet food.

In addition, the accused must receive psychological treatment, and his political rights were suspended.

In mid-August, the news about the death of “Rufo” at the hands of his owner, Juan P. E. went viral on social networks causing the rage of activists across the state.
