On Wednesday, July 5th, a woman who was driving a scooter ended up badly injured in the north of Mérida, as she was hit by a Nissan March compact vehicle.
The event took place on Wednesday afternoon, when the woman aboard the scooter was circulating on the bike path that is located on the side of the Mérida-Progreso highway, near the exit of the Las Américas subdivision.
Presumably, for driving in the opposite direction, at kilometer 13, a driver of a Nissan March compact car that did not see her hit the scooter and knocked the woman to the ground.
Fortunately, the injuries were not serious, the woman did not have to be taken to a hospital, and both involved reached an agreement through their insurance companies. After the expert report, it will be determined who is responsible for the accident.
What are the Regulations to ride a scooter in Mérida?
It should be noted that skates, skateboards as well as scooters, have the right to circulate on public roads, according to the Mérida Sustainable Mobility Observatory (OMSM).
According to the group, these means of transport are recognized by the Regulations of the Transit and Highway Law of the State of Yucatan as “Human-Propelled Vehicles” (Art 19. Fracc. IV) and as such, have rights and obligations similar to people who use bicycles and tricycles.
