Cops bust two men transporting $1.2M pesos cash in Playa del Carmen

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Q. Roo — Police detained two men for investigation last week at the south checkpoint of Playa del Carmen, when agents reviewing their car found a suitcase with a gun and $1.2 million pesos ($68,000 USD) in cash. The origin of the big sum of cash was not explained satisfactorily.

The two men, identified with the initials E. F. C. CH. and E. H. A., were traveling aboard a Jetta vehicle and were stopped for a routine inpsection. Inside the vehicle was a backpack that contained a .380 caliber weapon and several bundles of money totaling more than $1.2 million pesos. The men were placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Ministry to be investigated.
