After the strong winds and storm surge caused by cold front No. 32, the Progreso City Council, headed by Mayor Julián Zacarías Curi, informs citizens that the International Boardwalk will remain temporarily closed to carry out maintenance work in the areas affected by said phenomenon.

The Chief Officer of the Progreso City Council, Alfredo Salazar Rojo, in the company of the heads of the Public Security Directorate, Commander Omar de la Cruz Herrera; the Chief of the Ecological Police Unit, Obdulio Mena Sánchez; and the head of Public Services, Canán Góngora Ortegón, moved today to the affected area to assess the damage and coordinate the necessary actions, on instructions from the mayor.

Given this situation, municipal authorities urge citizens to take precautions and avoid going to the boardwalk area, as there will also be a power outage until further notice.

Likewise, it is recommended to stay informed, through official sources, about the reopening of this area, since everyone’s safety is paramount.

Will Carnaval de Progreso be cancelled?

Sources from the Progreso City Council confirmed for Yucatán Instante that the carnestoland activities scheduled from this Thursday are still on.

There would only be one change of location for the next presentation of the floats, which is this Thursday, it will no longer be on the Malecón, but on the ground floor of the Municipal Palace.
