Yucatán recorded the best August in its history in terms of passenger movement by air, receiving 327,189 travelers at the “Manuel Crescencio Rejón” Mérida International Airport, which meant a growth of almost 17.33% compared to the same period in 2022, as a result of the tourism promotion led by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal to position the state in the eyes of the world and promote the arrival of more visitors.

Official figures show that the entity is having a historic year, reaching 8 months with the highest figures; So far, the total movement of passengers was 2 million 435,612, the highest amount since records have been kept, and with an accumulated growth of 28.74% compared to the same period of the previous year, so that August was placed among the best 8 months in terms of movement at the local air terminal.

These figures reflect the transformation of the tourism sector in the territory promoted by Vila Dosal, by improving the variety of attractions offered and reinforcing air connectivity, despite the effects of the largest health contingency in modern history.

Last December, the Governor delivered a certificate to the 3 millionth passenger, Alberto Flores Torres, which surpassed the highest number registered in the air terminal, obtained in 2019, when 2.8 million travelers were recorded, reflecting the development of the destination and its positioning.

In addition to this, the region’s air connectivity has increased, by inaugurating 2 direct routes: Guanajuato-Mérida, operated by Volaris and Viva Aerobús, as well as Mérida-Guatemala and Mérida-Flores, by TAG Airlines, with 4 and 3 flights. per week, respectively, and competitive rates.

The Yucatecan territory has a new operational base or Viva hub at the Mérida Airport, which increases connectivity and generates 600 direct and indirect jobs.

Mérida is linked through 11 national routes to cities such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Veracruz, Villahermosa, Tijuana, and Oaxaca, and in the remainder of this year, Toluca, León and Querétaro; Likewise, it has 8 international routes, to Toronto, in Canada; Houston, Miami, Dallas and Oakland, from the United States; Havana, Cuba, and both Guatemala City and Flores, Guatemala.
