A tragic incident occurred in Mérida when a fire broke out in the Melitón Salazar neighborhood, resulting in the discovery of a charred woman’s body after the flames were extinguished.
The incident took place on Sunday night at a property located on 103rd Street and 62nd Avenue in the mentioned neighborhood.
Officers from the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) arrived at the scene to address an emergency call about the fire. They cordoned off the area to assist the firefighters.
The SSP firefighters successfully extinguished the fire and, upon completion of their operations, they proceeded to inspect the residence. This led to the grim discovery of a deceased individual, whose identity remains unknown.
Neighbors mentioned that a woman lived in the house, leading authorities to suspect that she attempted to seek refuge from the flames in her bathroom.
Due to the state of charring, the victim could not be immediately identified. As a result, the house was cordoned off, awaiting the arrival of personnel from the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo), who were responsible for the body’s removal.
