The sanitation works of the Umán Municipal garbage dump are advancing at a good pace with 70%. The work is scheduled to be closed definitively this year to convert it into a space for carrying out future events.
The start of this work was achieved thanks to the efforts of the Municipal President of Umán, Dr. Gaspar Ventura Cisneros Polanco and the sum of efforts with the Governor of Yucatán, Mauricio Vila Dosal to solve the constant fires in the municipal garbage dump that originated in the dry season and led to health problems for the inhabitants.
These sanitation actions are being supervised by the Secretary of Sustainable Development (SDS) to comply with sanitary regulations so that the 6 hectares are properly cared for and to be able to provide the final disposal of solid waste adequately.
In this way, the current administration puts an end to the open-air dump that for years functioned as a dump where various wastes were stored without any control that caused chronic respiratory diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, skin problems, etc.
This important project is part of the “Metropolitan Waste Management System” plan promoted by the State Government to reduce the levels of soil, air, and water pollution with the main objective of reducing environmental contamination and continuing to build a better place to live for future generations.
