New safe “Taxi Naranja” is launched in Cancun

The new units are fully equipped with GPS, 360-degree-video cameras and are monitored 24 hours per day.

Cancun, Q.Roo. México. – Yesterday, Wednesday 13th of March, 200 new fully equipped taxis were released onto the streets of Cancun, however these are not your regular taxis, no, these are taxis that will offer greater safety to its passengers according to Quintana Roo´s governor Carlos Joaquín.

Carlos Joaquín approved the operation of the “Taxi Naranja” since these brand new units are fully equipped with GPS, 360-degree-video cameras and are monitored 24 hours per day.

The presentation of this brand new project of safe taxis was held at the Sindicato de Taxistas Andrés Quintana Roo where Governor Carlos Joaquín was happy to announce the release onto the streets of Cancun. “Taxi Naranja” main reason to exist is to provide safer transportation options for the public, in particular, for women.

The “Taxi Naranja will give us the security that Quintana Roo needs; girls, women, children and senior citizens will have in these taxis the security that Cancunians require,” Governor Carlos Joaquín expressed.

Taxi Naranja program is promoted by the state government in association with Quintana Roo´s Women Association, therefore, drivers have gone through a thorough process of selection, training and certification.

The event was attended by the president of the DIF System Quintana Roo Gaby Rejón, the municipal president of Benito Juárez María Elena Lezama, the general secretary of the Taxi Drivers Union Andrés Quintana Roo Erasmo Abelar Cámara, the director of the Mobility Institute Jorge Pérez Pérez, the president of the National Taxi Driver Movement Bersaín Miranda Borraz, the magistrate president of the Superior Court of Justice Antonio León Ruiz, businessmen, representatives of civil society and the general public.
