Online transportation platforms have changed mobility in Mérida, so that standing and waiting for a cab is something that most people don’t do anymore….

MERIDA – Bad practices of taxi drivers are being left in the past as changes occur due to transport service platforms, such as Big Driver, THO Service, Cabify, Uber, among others. These consist of placing the destination you want to go to and pressing a button, then the application gives you the price, and in a few minutes the service arrives at the door of your house.

Faced with this revolution of the taxi service, the taxi union Front of Workers of the Wheel (FUTV) has announced the acquisition of 500 new transport units that are already in the streets, to change the usage of the traditional Nissan Tsuru, replacing them with cars like Nissan Versa, Volkswagen Jetta or Vento and Honda Civic, among other brands and models.

About this new vehicle fleet, FUTV members said that the main reasons why these actions are taken are the comforts offered by these vehicles, since all have air conditioning, a large trunk, in addition to the stoppage in the production of the Tsuru, last May, because its lack of the minimum safety measures.

On the subject, several taxi drivers commented that with these new cars one of the requests of the society is fulfilled, because many users demanded more comfortable vehicles.

The changes became with the administration of the former Governor Patricio Patrón Laviada, who granted concessions to other groups different from the FUTV, to be able of offer the transport service with the “taximeter” mode.

Then with the arrival of Uber and other transport platforms, the taxi drivers had to adapt themselves to offer modern cars and eliminate some of the famous taximeters, because people preferred the platforms, due to their cheaper cost and comfort.
