Good summer for Yucatan’s ports

August is the most productive month for beach destinations…

The penultimate Sunday of summer vacation was very positive for service providers in Yucatan, especially the beaches, where more than 100 thousand people gathered, which meant a major boost to local economic activity.

The president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco Servytur) of Merida, Juan José Abraham Dáguer, explained that according to reports from their affiliates in the service and tourism sector, sales increased in general in this holiday season, between 5% and 7%, according to a statement.

As predicted, this month has been the best of summer vacations and the penultimate weekend was the busiest for Yucatan’s beaches, where the largest number of local, regional and national visitors were concentrated, who give movement to this season in the country, he said.

Abraham Dáguer also remarked that although some schools started the 2017-2018 school year on Monday August 21, others will do so on Monday 28, so the next weekend is expected to be crowded, which will be very positive for the businesses in the coast.

“The behavior of the summer vacation period has been generally good, as it will exceed the previous year’s three-billion-pesos, which will confirm that Yucatan is considered as a fashionable destination for vacation,” he said.

For some service providers on the Yucatecan coast, summer holidays are an incentive because the economic impact left by tourists in the ports allows them to keep the economic activity of those areas in force, which during the rest of the year are lower, he said.

He pointed out that the businesses with the highest sales are restaurants, hotels, convenience stores and supermarkets of the main destinations of the entity, as well as providers of tourism services, he said.
