State and Federal authorities review progress of the Gran Parque La Plancha

The Great Park of “La Plancha” is almost ready and advancing favorably for the enjoyment of Yucatecan families, presenting an advance of 95%, works that Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal verified during a visit to observe the great work that, as a result of the coordinated work with the federal government and the City Hall, will be inaugurated on November 19, fulfilling a long-awaited request of the population.

Merida, Yucatan, October 21, 2023.- After arriving in Yucatan after heading a trade mission to Singapore to attract more investments and jobs to the state, Vila Dosal toured this afternoon the space where the works are being developed according to schedule, with which very soon the citizens will have a new place for family coexistence and great attractions that will favor the local economy.

Accompanied by the commander of the 10th Military Region, Major General Homero Mendoza Ruiz, the Governor walked through the main areas that make up this project, which represents an investment of more than 1.3 billion pesos and in its more than 22 hectares will have a wide range of attractions and areas for the healthy coexistence and recreation of locals and visitors to Yucatan.

Together with the secretary of the Merida City Hall, Alejandro Ruz Castro, Vila Dosal visited the linear walkway, the wagon area and those areas where there will be important attractions, such as the Gastronomic Market, the Skatepark, the Museum, circular walkway, artificial lake, auditorium and amphitheater.

With the explanations of the construction site resident, Construction Engineer Colonel Herminio Jiménez Velázquez, Vila Dosal also observed vestiges of a rotating table that was found during the works and is a device that was used to change the direction of travel of the locomotives; in coordination with the state government, work is being done to rescue this object with high historical value.

In the presence of the rector of the Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana (UTM), María Isabel Rodríguez Heredia and the general director of the Instituto Yucateco de Emprendedores (IYEM), Antonio González Blanco, Vila Dosal reviewed the “Herencia Viva Yucatán” project, which consists of the installation of a store in one of the cars of this Great Park, where products of Yucatecan artisans from the 106 municipalities will be exhibited with the objective of dignifying their work and boosting their economy.

It is worth remembering that the entire area is divided into 4 sections, with green areas, covered walkways, bike paths, amphitheater for 10,000 people, boardwalk, Pet Park, outdoor gym and sports areas, bike path, relocated housing areas, Museum of Light, Railroad Museum, 8 children’s play areas, skating rink and an IE-Tram station that will take passengers arriving on the Tren Maya to Teya and going to the center of the city.

The first section will house the open-air gymnasium, wagon concessions and the powerhouse; the second section will have children’s playgrounds, an interactive fountain and dining areas; the third section will have access, a water mirror, a skate park, a pet park and a gastronomic market; and the fourth section will have an amphitheater, children’s playgrounds and a large lake.

It will have a linear walkway of 712 meters and another circular one, a lookout point, concessions of 8 cars, interactive fountain, amphitheater with capacity for 10,000 people, artificial lake, water mirror, 4 modules of bathrooms, recreational path of 2 kilometers, skating rink and boardwalk; Gastronomic Market with island, administrative office, 5 restaurants and 41 stores, and the Museums of the Railroad and the Light, of 1,249 and 5,094 square meters, respectively.

Also, a parking lot with 301 parking spaces; a sports garden with a multipurpose court for fast soccer, volleyball, volleyball, etc.; an outdoor gymnasium; a 1,562 square meter pet park; 4 children’s playgrounds.

Among the benefits of this plan are that it will give better use to an area with a lot of history to make it part of the present and future of the entity, as a place for families to enjoy sports, recreational, cultural and educational activities, while increasing the number of visitors and taking advantage of the existing hotel offer. The Governor was accompanied by the general director of the Yucatan Highway Infrastructure Institute (Incay), Sergio Chan Lugo, and the head of the Ministry of Public Works (SOP), Aref Karam Espósitos.
