In the second stage of the rescue work of Campeche’s Historic Center, interventions will be carried out on approximately 200 facades that include churches in traditional neighborhoods and their surroundings, with an investment of 150 million pesos, reported the director of the Campeche State Cultural Heritage Authority (Apcec), Rosa del Carmen Olvera Salinas.

She indicated that they are waiting for the National Tourism Fund (Fonatur) to grant the authorized resources, which should be as soon as possible to start the work.

In this way, they would avoid what happened last year, when the resources were released on very tight deadlines, which made it difficult to start the actions of the first phase.

At the moment, she explained, they do not have the total amount of how much is required to intervene in the entire Historic Center and the traditional neighborhoods, however, for the second stage 150 million pesos were approved, and the works must end in 2023, before of the start-up of the Tren Maya

The objective is to finish the pending works related to lighting and the facades of colonial houses, temples, and their interiors, located on several streets.

The fortress wall will also be intervened, whose works were not completed in the first phase, because the resources were not sufficient, and they will carry out works in the traditional neighborhoods that include the churches of San Román, San Francisco, and Guadalupe, as well as their surroundings, such as the squares and parks.

Olvera Salinas highlighted that there is an emphasis on maintenance strategies for the works carried out for better conservation.
