Remodeling of Merida Airport will be completed in June: ASUR

In June, Merida Airport will begin to double its number of domestic and international passengers.

The Regional Director of Regional Airports (ASUR), Héctor Navarrete Muñoz assured that it will be in June when the International Airport of Mérida “Manuel Crescencio Rejón” will begin to double its number of national and international passengers.

In an interview for La Verdad Noticas he explained that the “Manuel Crescencio Rejon” airport has three terminals and all of them have grown with the expansion proposed in the Infrastructure Master Plan.

Therefore, he assures that when the remodeling is completed in June they will have the capacity to serve more than four million passengers each year, thus doubling their capacity by up to 40 percent compared to 2022.

“ASUR’s infrastructure management is in charge of the remodeling and informed us that by the end of June it will be practically ready to operate the new part of the airport correctly”, he stated.

According to Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste records, in 2021, the airport will receive two million 79 thousand 503 passengers, while in 2022 it will receive three million 79 thousand 618 passengers.
“Capacity would increase to four and a half million passengers per year,” he said.

In the framework of the XVIII International Hurricane Seminar being held in the city of Merida, he stated that it is important that airports also take preventive measures for any phenomenon that may arise.

“It is very important that we have our facilities ready for the season, that is why we have considered that in the construction of ASUR’s nine airports, all of them should have hurricane curtains and glass,” he emphasized.
