MEXICO CITY — Mexico is interested in building its first aircraft in-country and not just being a supplier, so it asked the US company Boeing to expand the field of manufacturing parts and aircraft components.

“I reach out to you, the Boeing company, to expand your field and visualize the possibility of being the first to give us the opportunity to achieve this dream, said Miguel Peláez,” head of the General Management of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC, for its acronym in Spanish).

During the event “Boeing: 100 Years of Aerospace Innovation”, held at the Museum of Anthropology in this capital, Peláez said that the present government seeks to make the country a global logistics platform.

Currently there are 46 manufacturing companies that work on some type of manufacture for Boeing, mainly in Chihuahua, Queretaro, Mexicali, Tijuana and San Luis Potosi.

He mentioned that Mexico represents 20 % of the parts and components of the manufacturer in Latin America and 50 % in national territory.

Meanwhile, the director of Promexico Francisco González Díaz said that there are 300 companies dedicated to the aerospace industry in Mexico, a growth of 500 % in the last 10 years, with exports of 6.6  billion dollars per year, an increase of 14 % a year.

He said that exports of the aerospace sector have doubled in comparison with those of the manufacturing industry, an accelerated development, but one that has allowed Mexico to become an indisputable aerospace power.

He explained that more and more complex assemblies are being developed and national suppliers of second and third level are being developed.
