A man was arrested on Friday for opening the emergency door of an in-flight aircraft in South Korea.

All 194 passengers survived the incident that occurred inside an Asiana Airlines plane as it was about to land at Seoul International Airport.

Some of the passengers fainted, while others suffered breathing difficulties and once on the ground were taken to the nearest health centers.

According to local reports, the man, in his 30s, was placed under arrest once the plane landed.

The aircraft had departed Jeju Island and was approaching Daegu airport when the incident occurred.

While flying at an altitude of about 250 meters, the man decided to open the emergency door.

Videos posted by other passengers show the door open on the left side of the aircraft and strong winds whipping the passengers there.

This is what the aircraft door looked like, which could not be closed due to the fact that the plane was in mid-flight.
The flight attendants could not stop the man when he tried to open the door because they were in their seats waiting to land.

According to statements from other passengers, the man also tried to jump out once he opened the door, which added to the panic inside the plane.

“It was chaos with people near the door fainting one by one and flight attendants asking if there was a doctor on board through the transmission,” a 44-year-old passenger told Yonhap news agency.

“I thought the plane was going to explode. I thought I was going to die,” he added.

Police arrested the person responsible for the incident.
Among the passengers on the plane were several children who were on their way to play in a sporting event over the weekend.

The mother of one of the students told Yonhap news agency that “the children started shaking, crying”.

Police indicated that the suspected door-opener has not given an explanation for his actions and was also not under the influence of alcohol when he was arrested.

“It is difficult to have a conversation with him. We are going to investigate the motive that led him to commit such a crime,” said a police spokesman.
