PLAYA DEL CARMEN — There’s a major new museum in the Mexican Caribbean.
The Museo Frida Kahlo has expanded with a new museum in the beach town of Playa del Carmen.
The Museo Frida Kahlo Riviera Maya, which debuted earlier this summer, is located on Playa del Carmen’s always-bustling Quinta Avenida, or Fifth Avenue.
The colorful, modern museum opened its doors in time for the 110th anniversary of Kahlo’s birth, with a mix of audiovisual installations, exhibits and, of course, a collection of Kahlo’s artwork.
It’s the second location for the museum, whose original location is in Mexico City.
The Mexican painter was a legend of the art world thanks to a remarkable career in the first half of the 20th century.
