Ómicron already affects auto parts companies in Yucatán, as they are going through a serious crisis due to the delay in the distribution and disembarkation of containers.

MÉRIDA, Yucatan, (December 04, 2021).- Ómicron already affects auto parts companies in Yucatán, as they are going through a serious crisis due to the delay in the distribution and disembarkation of containers due to the strict sanitary measures that continue to be applied in ports worldwide, as a result of the new strain of Covid.

The general director of Air Temp de México, Jorge Habib Abimerhi, explained that the merchant marine and port personnel are still affected by the sanitary measures due to the new strain of coronavirus known as Omicron, a situation that disrupts the transport and disembarkation of containers with the necessary supplies for automobile production, due to sanitary reasons.

Affected companies

He expressed that this delay in the transport of auto parts impacts important companies for the automotive market, such as Ford, Chrysler, Nissan, Honda, BMW, Kia Motors, Toyota, Volvo and Mercedes Benz.

“It is a problem not only related to the pandemic, but also to the economy and there is no solution in sight or in the short term in the damages in maritime transport,” he said.

The businessman stressed that before the pandemic, container ships took about 25 days to reach Mexican ports.

“Merchant ships from Asia to the port of Manzanillo now take twice, even three times the usual period of time, more than 75 days, and this situation will aggravate the impact on the entire value chain of the automotive sector,” he stated.

After participating in the Second Meeting of Governors of the Southeast with members of the United States Chamber of Commerce and the US Embassy, the Yucatecan businessman stressed that the delay of the shipping companies affects the distribution of auto parts to all the shipowners in the country.
