Authorities of the Regional Museum of Anthropology “Palacio Cantón”, of Mérida, invite the general public to enjoy its exhibition “Pyramids, Sacred Mountains“.
It is an unpublished national sample, which was inaugurated in Yucatan and then will be exhibited at the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City.
It is doubly unprecedented because for the first time in almost 80 years of the INAH an exhibition dedicated exclusively to Pyramids is mounted, and also because it features works that the master painter Francisco Toledo created exclusively for this exhibition and inspired by Pyramids.

The sample is integrated by 150 pre-Hispanic and contemporary pieces coming from 15 different Mexican states and is exhibited within the framework of the celebration of the 80 years of creation of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), to be commemorated on February 3rd, 2019.
It is carried out with the support of more than 40 collections from 23 museums in the country, among which the National Anthropology, the Templo Mayor, the Archaeological Zone of Teotihuacan, the Soumaya Museum, the Nacional de la Estampa and the Graphic Arts Institute of Oaxaca stand out.
The exhibition includes works of highly recognized plastic artists such as Francisco Toledo and Leonora Carrington.
The show features the mural of “The Wonderful World of the Mayas” by Leonora Carrington, which is exhibited for the first time in Mérida. There are also recreational spaces and augmented reality viewers that allow the visitor to explore the interior of this iconic buildings.
The exhibition was inaugurated with the presence of the general director of INAH, Diego Prieto Hernández; the national coordinator of Museums and Exhibitions of the institute, José Enrique Ortiz Lanz; the director of the INAH Yucatán Center, Eduardo López Calzada; the director of the museum site, Giovanna Jaspersen; as well as the holders of state and local culture, Erica Millet Corona and Irving Berlín Villafaña.
The exhibition will remain open until April 2019 at the Regional Museum of Anthropology, Canton Palace, located at Paseo Montejo 485, downtown Mérida, Yucatán.
Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at a cost of 55 pesos. On Sundays the entrance is free.23 museums of the country take part in this cultural exhibition.
