TEKAX, Yucatan — On Thursday July 20 at 10 o’clock in the morning, Dr. José Ramón Narro Robles, Mexico’s Secretary of Health, officially inaugurated the Tekax General Hospital that has been operating since the end of 2016 with first level services.
This project practically remained abandoned during the governmental management of Ivonne Ortega Pacheco (Former Governor of Yucatan). But in May 2015, the administration of Rolando Zapata Bello (Current Governor of Yucatan) announced in this city of the south of the state the resumption of the construction of the second level hospital, where now there will be consultation of family medicine, surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, an operating room and 60 beds for patients.
Dr. Narro Robles took office on February 8, 2016 to replace Mercedes Juan López.

After the formal ceremony at the hospital, which waited more than a decade to be inaugurated after it began construction, the former rector of the UNAM returned to Merida, where in the Uxmal hall of the Convention Center Siglo XXI led the signing of an agreement in which the Ministry of Health agreed with Canirac to include in menus, letters or shop windows, the calories contained in food and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as the percentage they represent in the daily diet in their establishments.
In Mexico, where more than 100,000 people have complications from diabetes, the agreement seeks to strengthen the prevention and control of overweight, obesity and disease among consumers visiting Canirac establishments. Among the participants in the event were Governor Zapata Bello, Carlos Campos Achach, President of Canirac in Yucatan, and Dr. Jorge Mendoza Mézquita, State Secretary of Health.
According to information from the Federal Health Secretariat, the agreement with Canirac will allow the design of a training program that Cofepris will offer to members of the group of restaurateurs to guarantee the safety of food and beverages, in compliance with the Official Standard Mexican NOM-251-SSA1-2009 on hygienic practices for the process of food, beverages or food supplements.
Yucatan is one of the four states considered by the federal government to carry out this program in its first stage. The other entities where it will be carried out are Puebla, Nuevo León and Sonora.
