Police served an arrest warrant against a Catalan who threatened a young woman.
Catalan Joan Serra Montagut was arrested on the morning of March 7 in Mérida, Yucatán, after assaulting an employee of the “Café Lavé” cafeteria a few days ago.
The incident occurred on February 25, 2025, when Serra Montagut arrived at the coffee shop to demand to lower the music volume. During the altercation, he threw objects and threatened the worker, Ruth Medina, with setting the place on fire and causing physical harm if his demands were not met.
The incident was caught on video by security cameras and spread on social media, generating outrage among the community. The mayor of Mérida, Cecilia Patrón Laviada, condemned the act and assured that appropriate measures would be taken against the aggressor.
Following the complaint filed by the victim, local authorities began an investigation that culminated in the arrest of Serra Montagut. He is expected to face charges of assault, threats, and property damage.
