They already perceive a greater influx of tourism, so they maintain good expectations.

The state’s lodging centers expect to reach 85% occupancy, with an offer of 17,100 rooms, reported the president of the Mexican Association of Hotels in Yucatan (AMHY), Juan José Martín Pacheco.

At the moment, hotels report a positive number of reservations, due to the Christmas season.

“We ended the month of October with a decrease of 2 percent. After the ‘Buen Fin’ there were complicated moments. However, now we are beginning to see movement. We are working in alliance with the authorities to bring the industry to a good end,” he said.

The leader of the AMHY added that they have perceived a return of people who have begun to move from the economic and touristic side. Likewise, on December 20 they will give the information for last November.

“Regarding December, we expect 85% occupancy. Roadside tourism has gained strength; in addition, we are working on the Southeast campaign. Unfortunately, nothing has been done since last May, but it will resume. Occupancy in hotel restaurants has begun to increase due to the inns. We hope to close with a good number in food consumption and lodging payments,” said Martín Pacheco.

During the previous administration, the issue of taxes and fees affected the state’s hotel industry, however, the representative of the sector assured that they have already started a dialogue with state authorities to return 50% of that tax, established for government expenses.

“To begin with, it is about the 50% that they took from us. What was stipulated was that 50% would go to government spending and 50% to tourism promotion. Now we have good support from the authorities so that we can reach a good conclusion and continue to fill the rooms,” he explained.

In this regard, the business leader said that they expect that by next year there will be 1,100 rooms. “However, since May it is still not clear.”

Finally, he said that there is a trust for the promotion, in addition to projects for 2025, which involve the Mayan train, as well as national and international fairs.
