The first 11 months of the year saw the largest number of foreign tourists at the airports in Cancun, Mexico City, and Los Cabos, registering 14 million 620 thousand tourists, the federal Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) announced in a press release issued on December 25.

For its part, the government of Quintana Roo highlighted that during the penultimate weekend of the year, the state’s four international airports (Cancun, Cozumel, Tulum, and Chetumal) reported more than 1,460 air operations. And on December 25 alone, Christmas Day, 620 air operations were recorded.

“With these numbers, a great end to the year in terms of tourism is expected. The week of December 14 to 20 saw an influx of 472,286 tourists, with an average hotel occupancy of 78.4 percent. Airport operations totaled 4,349 arrivals and departures between the four airports in the state,” detailed the Quintana Roo government.

On December 21, Quintana Roo broke a record with 762 scheduled operations in all its air terminals to national and international destinations, highlighting the frequencies to the east coast of the United States, mainly, Canada and Europe.

The information shared by Sectur details that from January to November 2024, the arrival of 19 million 917 thousand foreign tourists by air to Mexico was recorded according to their nationality, an increase of 2.2 percent, compared to the same period in 2023, and 16.6 percent more than the arrivals in 2019.
