Yucatan Government inherits a deficit of more than 800 million pesos (40 million USD); so the Governor warns that he will file formal complaints., and members of the previous administration will have to take the corresponding responsibilities.

Joaquín Díaz Mena stressed that given the economic situation that his administration faces, he will ask for credit to meet expenses.

The governor of the State, Joaquín Díaz Mena, reported that his administration “inherited” a deficit of resources of 808 million pesos, for which he considered the financial situation of the current state government to be critical.

At the Government Palace, Díaz Mena declared in his “morning” press conference that they also detected irregularities in the management of funds, such as excessive payments to offices, irregular acquisitions, and improper liquidations to officials, professional services contracts with companies linked to officials of the outgoing administration and inappropriate use of public resources from trusts.

In light of these issues, the Morena governor commented that approaches have already begun with federal agencies such as the Ministries of Finance and Public Credit and Public Education, to manage additional resources to close the year correctly and meet payment commitments to teachers and health personnel.

If necessary, he added, the Government will request a bridge loan to be able to move forward with the financial commitments facing his administration.

However, he clarified that his administration will not lead a “witch hunt,” but there will be complaints if irregularities are confirmed.

He stated that he would apply austerity measures in the public administration, ordering a cut in cell phone spending, except for public security and Civil Protection agencies, as well as austerity in the use of fuel and limiting the use of the vehicle fleet.
