Mérida is preparing to experience a night full of art and culture with the start of the eighteenth edition of La Noche Blanca, which will kick off with “The Eve” (La Víspera) today Friday, November 29. This event decentralizes cultural activities and promises unique experiences in different parts of the city.

A diverse and accessible cultural program

At a press conference, the cultural authorities of the Mérida City Council presented the details of this initiative. Claudia Chapa Cortés, deputy director of Culture, highlighted the importance of “The Eve” as an effort to bring art and culture to more people in the “White City”.

“They will be able to put together their cultural routes. We have 37 galleries in the center and the Itzimná area, in addition to activities in decentralized spaces such as the Centro Cultural del Sur and Caucel,” she said.

The event will include tours of galleries divided into four main axes: Paseo de Montejo, Santiago, Santa Ana, and La Ermita, organized by specialists such as Emmanuel Tatto and Fernanda Camacho. In addition, there will be narrations about the history of the neighborhoods and artistic presentations on each route.

Another attraction will be the Night Bike Route circuit on Paseo de Montejo, which will extend from the Monumento a la Patria to El Remate. This tour will include cultural entertainment points and will take place from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Karla Berrón Cámara, director of Identity and Culture, highlighted the magnitude of this edition, which will feature:

  • 207 artistic and cultural activities
  • More than 500 artists

“Mérida continues to consolidate itself as a cultural reference at an international level. With ‘La Víspera’, we want to bring art to more people and reinforce our cultural identity,” Berrón Cámara said.
