On Thursday, November 28, a trailer loaded with beer overturned on the Calkiní-Tepakán highway in the state of Campeche, causing one of the vehicle’s boxes to open and the product to be scattered on the asphalt.

The accident, which occurred at the Kalkiní junction, quickly attracted residents of the area, who did not miss the opportunity to pick up the beer spilled on the site. Despite the call from the authorities to avoid this type of act, dozens of people took the product without permission. This type of people is commonly known as “scavengers.”

The causes of the overturn have not yet been clarified, but it is presumed that the driver lost control due to the narrowness of the road or a possible case of speeding. No serious injuries were reported after the incident, although the trailer suffered considerable damage.

Agents of the National Guard and road safety personnel went to the scene but were unable to contain the crowd, which had already begun to steal the cases of beer.

This type of act has become a recurring theme in accidents of this type, which highlights the lack of awareness of the legal and safety implications of participating in the theft of damaged goods.
