Old Yucatán Maya legend rises again because of a pig in Tizimín

Residents of the San Francisco neighborhood have reported the presence of a black pig that has been wandering the streets for days. The pig has generated fear, concern, and rumors among the neighbors, even reviving the legend of Uay Kekén (werepig).

Many cultures around the world have legends of men and women who magically change shape through witchcraft. In central Mexico and other parts of the country, there are the nahuales. Yucatán, for its part, has the Uay Chivo (weregoat) or the Uay Kekén, which, like the so-called Nahuales in Central Mexico, are human beings who can take the form of animals.

A video with images of the pig is also circulating on social networks, surprising the residents of Tizimín.

According to testimonies, the animal is seen mainly during the early morning, accompanied by noises that have led some residents to associate it with the mythical Uay Kekén, a figure from Mayan legends.

However, others say it could simply be a domestic pig that escaped from its home.

“If this animal has an owner, we ask that you keep it tied up or under protection because it is causing fear among the neighbors,” commented a neighbor.

The fear intensifies because residents remember having been recent victims of robberies, so every noise at night alerts them and makes them leave their homes, fearing the presence of thieves.

For this reason, they ask the authorities to reinforce surveillance patrols in the area at night. Meanwhile, the presence of the black pig continues to be a topic of conversation. It divides opinions between disbelievers and those who believe that there may be something more behind its mysterious appearance.
