Long weekend will bring good occupancy for hotels in Merida

“Due to the long weekend for the Anniversary of the Mexican Revolution and the Buen Fin, which coincide on dates this November, good hotel occupancy is expected for Merida”, said Juan José Martín Pacheco, president of the Mexican Association of Hotels of Yucatán (AMHY).

The president of the association explained that even though from May to date there was little promotion for the Southeast of Mexico, which receives 90 percent national tourism and 10 percent international tourism; it is expected that hotel occupancy in Mérida could close the year with positive figures.

“We must promote strongly in these last months of the year because since last May the previous Government ended the promotion of the state,” he mentioned.

Martín Pacheco argued that this positive omen is driven by the increase in the arrival of national and international flights, which will strengthen activity in the tourism sector.

Juan José Martín recalled that in September hotel occupancy in Mérida reached 49 percent, which shows a two-point drop compared to last year, when it had 51 percent.

As for the rest of the state, occupancy reached 29 percent, showing a slight growth compared to the 28 percent reported in 2023.

Regarding the hotel occupancy numbers for last month, he said that they do not yet have the statistics, but apparently, it will be similar to that recorded in September with 49 percent in Mérida, 47 percent in general, and 29 percent in the rest of the state.

He said that, given the regular occupancy, the Secretariat of Tourism Development, the Association of Hotels, the City Council of Mérida, and the Trust for Congresses and Meetings will begin a strong promotional campaign in the states of the Southeast, on the destinations of Mérida and Valladolid.

He explained that the promotional campaigns have generated good expectations for the Hotel Association for November and December, which is the peak season for congresses and conventions, and for the December Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

For these last two months, authorities expect hotel occupancy in Yucatan to reach 80 or 85 percent. This is urgent and necessary because the hotel sector currently has 17 thousand rooms available.
