“We are pleased to hear the decision of the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, to prevent the entry into our country of genetically modified seeds, known as transgenic grains, and above all, that the planting and harvesting of these chemical products is not permitted,” said Juan Manuel Medina Castro.
The leader of the League of Agrarian Communities and Peasant Unions of the CNC of Yucatan, Medina Castro, stated that the former president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, prohibited the entry into our country of genetically modified seeds, as well as the planting of transgenic corn, sorghum, and soybeans.
He reiterated that Mexican farmers support the decision of President Sheinbaum to continue preventing the entry into our country of transgenic grains that can cause diseases to human consumption, and could also affect the livestock sector.
He reiterated that the Head of the Federal Executive also announced the production of corn, sorghum, soybeans, beans, and rice so that we are self-sufficient in these foods and do not have to import from the United States and Canada as is currently the case, therefore there must be greater investment in the national field.
Finally, the leader of the CNC of Yucatan Medina Castro said that it has already been proven in the State that transgenic grains such as corn, sorghum, and soybeans cause damage to the pollen of honey, in the entity there is a lot of production of this food that is marketed nationally and internationally. Bees must be protected and transgenic crops avoided.
