Yucatan students stand out in the National Mathematics Olympiad

Primary and secondary school students from Yucatán achieved important recognition in the Eighth National Mathematics Olympiad for Basic Education, which rewards academic effort and mathematical talent at the national level.

The students who represented Yucatán were advised by teachers from the Faculty of Mathematics of the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY). This support was crucial to the success obtained since it allowed constant preparation throughout the year.

The State Secretary of Education (SEGEY) also played an essential role in coordinating the selection and training stages.

The event was held in Oaxtepec, Morelos, on September 19, 2024, where students participated in three categories: fifth and sixth of primary school, first and second of secondary school, and third of secondary school. The outstanding young people are Daniel Benjamín Salazar Álvarez, Karen Renata Canché Uc, Zabdiel Uitzil García, Víctor Gerardo Vázquez, José Antonio Bernal Massa, Sara Eugenia Terán Domínguez, Christopher Rafael Rodríguez Moguel, Ángel Lizarraga Manzanilla, Carlos Alfonso Gutiérrez Hernández.

The National Olympiad aims to strengthen the intellect, imagination, and creativity of students. In addition, it seeks to improve the teaching of mathematics, providing teachers and students with new tools, incentives, and perspectives.

The best participants have the possibility of being selected to compete in the International Mathematics Competition, representing Mexico in an international competition.

This contest is the most important in the area of ​​mathematics for basic education at the national level and has the participation of outstanding students from all the states of the Republic. The Olympiad takes place for four days in the host entity, where exams, coordination meetings, and an awards ceremony are held.

In addition, participants enjoy cultural and social activities that complement the experience. This year’s edition has been a success for Yucatán, consolidating the state as a power in the educational and academic field.
