Currently, the National Council of Humanities, Sciences, and Technologies (Conahcyt) is financing two projects that seek to stop contamination of the groundwater table and encourage agricultural communities in Yucatán to have access to renewable energy.

Osvaldo Carvente Muñoz, head of the Graduate and Research Unit of the School of Engineering of the Autonomous University of Yucatán (Uady), indicated that the projects belong to that school he represents and, for 20 years they have been seeking to develop strategies that provide solutions to social problems.

He indicated that Conahcyt has a program that finances projects that address social problems, and the School of Engineering supports two. One of them monitors the quality of the water in the groundwater and on the coast, for which it works with people from communities where water is extracted.

“We work with the people where the water is extracted to monitor the quality. We also work on pollution prevention and generate strategies to reduce pollution,” commented the doctor.

He mentioned that the other financially supported project has to do with bringing technology to people so that they have renewable energy, such as, for example, the pumping of vegetables through renewable resources, which has impacted populations like Ixil and Peto.

Carvente Muñoz indicated that in this last project not only is infrastructure provided, but the beneficiaries are also trained to use it, install it, and dismantle it in the event of an environmental contingency such as a hurricane, in addition to teaching them the care they must take. have for correct operation.
