On October 31, the Plaza Grande of the Historic Center of Mérida will be dressed in traditional colors, aromas, and flavors. The Great State Exhibition of Altars will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. During this event, the public will be able to appreciate the altars, in a journey through the identity and worldview of Yucatan.

Each altar will have different elements, from flowers and candles to food and everyday objects that honor the deceased. In addition, city councils and state government institutions will join this celebration, contributing their perspective on memory and heritage in their communities.

As part of the activities to commemorate the Day of the Dead, and with the aim of broadening understanding of the importance of living traditions, the GMMM will host educational activities for the general public. Workshops, thematic guided tours, and talks about the meaning and future of the altars in Yucatan Mayan territory will be part of the program.

In this way, it will be possible to delve deeper into the cultural legacy that surrounds the time of the dead in Yucatan -also known as Hanal Pixan-, promoting its dissemination and preservation. Thus, the Great Museum of the Mayan World is consolidated as a place of encounter and learning, which houses and is committed to the living traditions of the Maya people.
