Similar to the section “Who is who in the lies of the week”, which Elizabeth García Vilchis presented in the morning press conference of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo debuted the “lie detector” to show to the media and social media users.

Miguel Ángel Elorza, the coordinator of Infodemia, introduced himself as the person in charge of this new section, which will be presented every Wednesday in the Salón Tesorería.

Before the President, Elorza said that “the main threat to democracy in the modern era is disinformation and its harshest face is the infodemic (Infodemic: an excessive amount of information about a problem that is typically unreliable, spreads rapidly, and makes a solution more difficult to achieve).”

“In the morning press conferences of the people we begin another stage of the fight against disinformation. Infodemia MX will present the Lie Detector section every Wednesday through videos, with denials made from the participation of citizens to the email [email protected],” described Miguel Ángel Elorza.

“The important thing in this section is to dismantle fake news that damages public conversation and “increases the risk of conflict, violence, and threatens the long-term prospects of promoting democracy and social cohesion,” said Elorza.

In the first video of “The Lie Detector”, publicist Carlos Alazraki was allegedly exhibited as a liar. It was also denied that protection was denied to the murdered mayor of Chilpancingo, Alejandro Arcos; and that the deceased veteran politician Ifigenia Martínez was taken from intensive care to hand over the presidential sash.

The person in charge of the “lie detector” added that, in four years, on the Infodemia MX platform, 4,460 lies have been denied on topics such as health, democracy, corruption, education, fraud, extortion, education, governance, natural disasters, security, among others.
