Yucatean Paralympic athlete Gilda Cota took second place in the F33 shot put final.
Gilda Guadalupe Cota Vera took the silver medal, with an American record, by registering 7.89 meters in the F33 shot put final, on the seventh day of para-athletics at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
The 34-year-old Yucatecan made her Paralympic debut in Paris 2024, at the Stade de France, where she registered five valid attempts of 7.85, 7.31, 7.28, 7.89, and 7.63 meters.
The world champion in Kobe 2024 lived a day full of emotions that she was able to express until she finished her test and learned that she had won second place.
“I was in shock because when I finished throwing, I looked up and saw the magnitude of the stadium, all those people cheering and I said to myself, you did it, you set your mind to it and you achieved it, it was truly something wonderful,” said Gilda Cota.
The gold medal went to China’s Qing Wu, who set a Paralympic record with 7.98 meters. While the bronze medal went to Svetlana Krivenok of Neutral Paralympic Athletes, with a record of 7.74 meters.
