The coordinated work of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Yucatan, the Michou y Mau Foundation, and the Navy (SEMAR) successfully transferred a Yucatecan 3-month-old pediatric patient with burns on 40% of her body to the Hospital in Galveston, Texas, United States, a clinic specializing in the care of burned children.
On August 28, the pediatric patient was taken to the Regional General Hospital No. 12 by paramedics from the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), where she was treated by a multidisciplinary team of specialists who managed to stabilize her and refer her to the Pediatric Intensive Care service.
Due to her health condition, communication was established with the Michou y Mau Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention and care of Mexican children with severe burns, to evaluate the transfer to the aforementioned hospital in the United States, where highly specialized care is provided to pediatric burn patients.
To achieve a transfer under favorable conditions, specialists from HGR No. 12 and the medical team from Shriners for Children’s Hospital constantly monitored the little girl’s health status, so that on Sunday, September 1, under strict protocols and amid an institutional security device, she was taken to the Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport in the city of Mérida, where a plane from the Navy was already waiting for her to carry out this maneuver and arrive at the American hospital.
Social Security in Yucatán reaffirms its commitment to safeguard the health of children and thanks and recognizes all the staff, as well as the Michou y Mau I.A.P. Foundation and the SEMAR for this coordinated work and with which, this year, two pediatric patients have been transferred to this clinic specialized in the care of burned children.
