Currently, the phenomenon does not pose a threat to the coasts of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, Florida, confirmed the formation of Tropical Storm Gordon in the central Atlantic this Friday, September 13, 2024.
Warning number 9 issued by the SNM College Park Weather Prediction Center indicates that, at 10:00 a.m., the tropical depression strengthened and is now officially ‘Gordon’.
According to information provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the center of Gordon is located at latitude 19.4° North and longitude 38.6° West, about 1,590 km north of the Cape Verde Islands. Currently, it does not pose a threat to the coasts of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico.
The tropical storm is moving west-northwest at a speed of 19 km/h, with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h and stronger gusts extending up to 110 km from its center. The storm’s minimum central pressure has been estimated at 1006 mb (29.71 inches). It is expected to maintain its westward movement during this weekend and on Monday, September 16.
The NHC noted that the phenomenon could experience slight strengthening in the coming hours, although it is expected to begin to gradually weaken on Saturday. Despite the recent strengthening, no coastal watches or warnings have been issued for any region so far.

Although the tropical storm does not represent an immediate threat to Mexican territory, meteorological authorities will continue to monitor its evolution and possible change in trajectory. The population in areas near the central Atlantic is advised to remain attentive to official communications, especially as the storm moves west.
