The School of Nursing is an example of the educational quality, comprehensive training, and values promoted in each of the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY) schools, said Dean Carlos Alberto Estrada Pinto.

Within the celebration of the 61st anniversary of this university school, he assured that, with each change or modification, this school has prepared itself to face any challenge, because the institution prepares students but also academic, administrative, and manual staff ready to solve any problem.

Estrada Pinto recognized that UADY’s Nursing School contributes significantly to the prestige of the University since it is recognized nationally and internationally for its achievements.

“An anniversary always allows us to remember the history of each institution, but above all, it helps us see where and how we can project ourselves into the future. The world is changing rapidly. There are many demands, new technologies, and health and social work issues are changing, However, I know that they are prepared for all of that,” he highlighted.

In this space, the Dean took the opportunity to congratulate the administrative worker María Concepción Segura Chan and the manual staff Gloria Margarita Puerto Castillo for their recognition for 40 and 20 years of service, respectively, in this educational facility. In addition, he assured them that UADY recognizes and values the daily work they do for the benefit of the university community.

Addressing a few words to the attendees, the director of the school, Dallany Trinidad Tun González, recalled that September 17 is when the anniversary of this school is commemorated, and the history of Nursing dates back to 1903.

Years later, he said, the National University of the Southeast awarded the titles of Registered Nurse and Midwife Nurse. By 1958 the school was closed due to lack of demand and reopened in 1963.

He recalled that, in 1984, the first Bachelor of Nursing course began when 22 women enrolled and 21 graduated. By August 28, 1994, she continued, the School of Nursing created postgraduate study programs.

In addition to the examples of outstanding students, Tun González recognized Cassandra Burgos Ávila, a student who, without hesitation, provided immediate care to a person who had moderate bleeding due to a stab wound and thereby showed her professional skills, vocation, courage and university values.

As part of the ceremony, a cake cutting took place, and the unveiling of the plaque to students with the best grades.
