Merida now has a renovated Plaza Grande that lives up to what we deserve, as well as a new attraction with the Yucatan Museum, a past present, installed within the Government Palace, projects that were delivered by the person in charge of the Office, María Fritz Sierra, acting as head of the Executive Branch, and that come to strengthen the tourist vocation and the identity of the Historic Center of the Yucatecan capital.

Fritz Sierra headed the delivery of the rehabilitation works of the Plaza Grande and the creation of the Museum in the facilities of the headquarters of the state Executive, spaces that will allow Yucatecan families to enjoy the heart of our Yucatecan capital and, at the same time, offer our visitors a new image and one more option to get to know.

In the Plaza Grande, trees with pests or diseases were removed and, in an unprecedented act, more than 100 new trees of endemic varieties such as the ceiba, balché, ramón, poplar, and jícara were planted in their place, to have twice as many shaded areas, which for the Mayans have great religious and cosmological symbolism and are essential for life.

Likewise, there is now enriched vegetation in this space with species such as chaká, bojón, mahogany, caracolillo, pink and yellow maculís.

People can now enjoy an architectural proposal that comes to transform the public image of what is one of the most important areas of Mérida, providing a more pedestrian-friendly environment and improving the experience for visitors, businesses, and those who use this point.

With an investment of 120.5 million pesos, the modernization works of the emblematic Plaza Grande of Mérida were carried out to integrate the area of the Historic Center and turn it into an inclusive, safe space for pedestrians and a tourist attraction. To do this, pedestrians were given priority, the flow of motor vehicles in that space was reduced, ramps were placed to reduce speed, and traffic lights for vehicles and pedestrians were installed to provide greater safety for mobility in the area.

A single level was installed for the pedestrian area, and security bollards and pedestrian crossings were placed. In addition, sidewalks were widened, ramps were built, and safe access for people with disabilities.

On the other hand, the metal letters with the word Mérida were restored, new lights were installed, garbage cans and new urban furniture were spacious, comfortable, and very resistant, ideal to withstand the climatic conditions of the region, which is composed of straight and circular concrete benches with a marble finish.

To maintain the essence that characterizes this attraction, the existing green wooden benches were maintained and repaired, and new visitor chairs were installed, which, together with the new furniture, created a perfect balance between modernity and tradition.
